“Tomorrow we will be declaring a national state of emergency due to the energy crisis in North Macedonia. The situation is alarming”. This is what the head of the Macedonian Electro-Transmitting Operating System, Kushtrim Ramadani told Euronews Albania.
Ramadani noted that this will lead to price hikes for electricity, but at the moment there won’t be any power outages.
“After the new year, the energy bills will change,” – he said.
Ramadani also clarified that lately, there has been gross mismanagement of water reserves and that now, we are only working at 10% capacity.
“We have no energy production in our thermal power stations at the present moment, zero,” – said Ramadani, adding that the price of oil has been regulated through a price ceiling initiated by the state and that the Energy Regulating Commission will determine the price of oil and its derivatives on a weekly basis.
Lastly, he brought up the fact that regardless of the present crisis, the price of oil in North Macedonia is still cheaper than in Albania.
