The leader of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha met with US Congressmen and Senators. In a press conference, he said American lawmakers have shown interest on DP’s initiative on vetting politicians.
“We will not stop for any moment for the main cause of the Albanian people, which is having politicians with a clean figure, who serve to their interests and not to a narrow circle of oligarchs and organized crime”, declared Basha.
He also that although five years have passed since the enactment of the justice reform, no high-level politician has ever been put in front of justice on corruption charges.
“Vetting politicians, as an initiative that helps to make SPAK and the National Bureau of Investigation more active”, Basha said.
Asked by reporters if Berisha had come up during the talks, Basha replied that “our absolute priority is separation from the past and endemic corruption”.
“The DP and I cannot become the personal attorney of anyone. We will advocate for the problems of the Albanian people. We have been ascertained that we will have the endorsement of the US Congress and Senate”, concluded Basha.
