Opposition party VMRO-DPMNE submitted on Monday to the assembly an initiative to impeach PM Zoran Zaev.

North Macedonia’s largest opposition party gave Zav an ultimatum to submit his resignation, which proved unsuccessful, pushing 61 MPs to sign in favor of rolling out the impeachment procedure.

Although Zaev vowed to step down, his reaction was somewhat confusing, as later on, he said that the move “could undermine cohabitation, neighborly relations, and international agreements”.

On Thursday, the parliament is set to vote on the motion.

Zaev’s decision to resign as chief of the executive, as well as from the chairmanship of the party, has been refused by its allies, including two ethnic Albanian parties, Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) and Movement Besa.
