‘The new judicial map will be ready before the end of the year, or at most early next year’. This is what the deputy minister of justice, Klajdi Karameta said on Euronews Albania’s ‘Morning’ show, adding that this new map is a competence of the High Judicial Council.
“The High Judicial Council and the Ministry of Justice are undergoing discussions. By the end of the year, max, early next year, the map will be ready. Within 2 to 3 months, maybe before that, it will be ready,” – he said.
In regards to the ’41 bis’ prisoner regime, he said that the transfers of inmates into these types of cells, wasn’t an initiative of the Ministry of Justice, but rather it belongs to SPAK. According to him, the ministry can only decide after a proposal is made by SPAK.
When asked about the wages of prison staff, the deputy minister underlined that prison police officers aren’t underrated nor are they overly valued.
“A package containing 4 main laws has been approved, regarding the reformation and improvement of the prison system. We have ultimately resolved the problem of overpopulation in prisons. In the last 8 years, the salaries of prison police have gone up by 46%. We expect it to rise again come next year,” – he said.
