After a five-hour debate, the presidency of the Democratic Party approved Lulzim Basha’s proposal, paving the way to holding the National Assembly on December 18.

The meeting was characterized by fiery debates as several members staunchly opposed Basha’s proposal. In total, 26 members voted in favor, 3 were against and 7 did not vote.

Basha claims that Berisha is trying to use the DP as “his own personal bunker”.

“For the past two months, Sali Berisha has carried an action which bears no relation to the party’s present nor future, or with what do Democrats and the Albanian people need, which is to see the Democratic Party ruling the country. He has decided to impose his own personal problem with the United States as a problem of the DP”, declared Basha.

Earlier during the day, the head of the DP declared that Berisha might even “proclaim war against the US, if he so desires”, but dismissed chances on the existence of two parallel structures within a single Democratic Party.
