The Ambassador of the United States to Albania said that regardless of what happens inside or outside the Albanian borders, the US will always support the sovereignty of the country.

Ambassador Yuri Kim recalled the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as the Ottoman Empire was crumbling to its feet, adding that at the time great powers wanted to divide Albania among themselves.

“I feel very proud that it was our President Woodrow Wilson who said No! Albania is a country; Albania is a nation and deserves to be independent”, said Ambassador Kim, adding that the US has never wavered this stance and always supported Albania’s sovereignty.

“Regardless of what happens outside or inside Albania, this stance will never change”, said Kim.

During her word at an exhibition titled “In the Name of America” hosted by the Institute for Democracy, Media and Culture, Ambassador Kim said that the exhibition serves to show that communist leaders not only intended to seclude the state but also to isolate the spirit of the country.

The Ambassador urged the younger generation to learn more about the communist past.

“It is unbelievable, but it is a part of your history and it is very important that you learn that”, said Kim.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the reestablishment of US-Albania diplomatic ties, following the fall of the communist regime.
