The murder of 8-year-old Mateo Vasiu in Fier, has been met with mixed reactions even at today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Commission.

First and foremost, MPs asked for prompt changes to be introduced to our legislation and the National Security Commission, in order to prevent such tragic incidents from happening in the future, whereas Socialists made continuous calls to not instrumentalize this case for political gains.

Democratic MP, Luan Baci argued that had the 38-year-old been appropriately treated for this medical condition by public institutions, the 8-year-old’s murder might have been prevented.

“An 8-year-old might have been alive today if the state, the police, the municipality, the local government had done their duties and dealt accordingly with the 38-year-old monster,” – said Baci.

In addition, Enkelejd Alibeaj asked the Parliament to react in unison to this brutal homicide, while simultaneously supporting today’s protest directed by Mateo Vasiu’s family.

MPs from both sides of the political spectrum agreed about the importance of toughening up our legislation for crimes similar to the one in Fier.
