Jeffrey Hovenier is set to become the new Ambassador of the United States to Kosovo.
His appointment was confirmed by the US Senate.
The career diplomat was nominated by President Joe Biden back in July.
Hovenier has extensive experience in the Western Balkans region, including Kosovo, as he was part of the U.S. delegation to the 1999 Kosovo Peace Talks, as well as on the staff of the UN Special Envoy for Kosovo Status.
In 2018, former president Hashim Thaçi awarded him the Presidential Jubilee Medal on the 10ath anniversary of the independence of Kosovo for “his contribution toward the freedom and independence of Kosovo”.
“I will always be a friend to Kosovo”, said Hovenier at the time.
A few days ago, the US Ambassador to Kosovo declared that the region will remain blocked if Kosovo and Serbia don’t normalize ties.
