The head of the Socialist Party’s Parliamentary Group Taulant Balla declared that the Venice Commission is expected to reveal its opinion one extending the vetting mandate by early December.
“I don’t want to debate over this issue, nor make any remarks that will not do any good the need of the Assembly to carry out the revision through parliamentary procedures. This is a matter that is up to the Legislation Council, the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, and the Venice Commission”, he said.
In terms of the Electoral Reform, the MP declared that the Socialists will guarantee free and fair veto rights among the members of the Special Commission.
“There should be no prejudices on the work of the commission. All additional proposals set forth will be deliberated at the Commission. What the SP guarantees, being that it is a majority, is equality and veto rights among the two largest parties. This is the core”, Balla said.
In regards to a request of SPAK prosecutors on extending their term in office, Balla asserted that it is one of the topics that will be taken up, but it is not a pressing issue as none of them are near the end of their mandate.
“Let’s not forget that it involves constitutional amendments which require a special procedure. There are no deposits or signatories among MPs which would put the procedure in motion. The time at the disposal is enough, none of the members or prosecutors is near the end of the mandate”, he said.
