The Special Prosecution Against Organized Crime and Corruption decided to drop an investigation against the former president of the Justice Appointments Council (JAC), Ardian Dvorani.

In 2019, President Ilir Meta deposited a lawsuit against Dvorani, claiming “abuse of office”, and “embezzlement of state office”.

The row began over the selection process of the Constitutional Court’s members, with President Meta even accusing Dvorani as “the party’s blind soldier”.

The lawsuit was initially filed at the Tirana Prosecution Office, then transferred to SPAK.

Sources have confirmed for Euronews Albania that Dvorani has been taken in for questioning.

Ardian Dvorani is a practicing judge at the Tirana Administrative Court of Appeals, while in February he was hailed by the US Department of State as a “champion in tackling corruption”.

However, it will be the Special Court Against Corruption who will have the final say on whether to drop the investigation in a session due on Tuesday.
