After winning the presidential runoff, Rumen Radev reiterated that Bulgaria will not lift the veto on North Macedonia’s EU accession bid.

In a press conference, President Radev said that the new government should keep a rigid stance when it comes to identity as well as the country’s history and minority rights.

Bulgaria’s veto has also blocked Albania’s integration.

Earlier on, thirteen US Congressmen wrote a letter to the Bulgarian Ambassador urging to “put differences aside” and “support the integration of Albania and North Macedonia” into the European Union before the end of the year, amid concern that the skepticism might be creating fertile ground for “Russian and Chinese influences” in the region.
