At least 45 citizens lost their lives in a tragic road accident, which took place in the early hours of the morning in western Bulgaria.
The bus with North Macedonia’s license plates crashed, before catching fire. Amongst the victims, there are children, whereas only 7 citizens are reported to have been rescued so far.
Meanwhile, the actual cause of the tragic accident remains unclear at this time.
North Macedonia’s foreign minister, Bujar Osmani has stated that the bus was coming back to Skopje from a weekend trip to the Turkish city of Istanbul.
“This is a tragedy. We are still unsure whether all the victims are of Macedonian nationality, but we presume it to be the case, seeing that the bus is registered with us,” – said the acting PM of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev.
After arriving at the scene of the accident, the Bulgarian minister of internal affairs, Bojko Rashkov declared that the victims’ bodies had been completely burned by the fire.
The Albanian MFA, Olta Xhacka, has come out with a public statement immediately after the news was made public.
“My sincerest condolences to all families of victims and speedy recovery for the injured. Albania stands with North Macedonia and its people in these difficult times,” – wrote Xhacka.
