The General Secretary of the Democratic Party Gazment Bardhi discussed for the first time the recent accusations made by President Ilir Meta and the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) in an exclusive interview for Euronews Albania.
DP’s Secretary-General linked the president’s reaction with an argument used by the State Department when it designated former premier Sali Berisha ‘persona non-grata’.
Indirectly, Bardhi cited a fragment from the designation which said “Berisha has protected and favored his political allies”.
“There have been some repeated attempts from the SMI, and recently Meta, to get involved in the internal debates of the DP. If we go back to the designation of the State Department, we may find a motive behind this senseless reaction”, he said.
Regarding the two separate Assemblies, respectively on the 11 called by Berisha and 18 by Basha, Gazment Bardhi described the former more as a “rally of the former prime minister Berisha, Rama and Meta”.
“There is only one Assembly called for by the presidency of the Democratic Party on the 18 of December. With all the facts out in the open, what will happen on 11 December is more like a rally of Berisha, Rama, and Meta”, Bardhi said.
