The General Secretary of the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) Endrit Braimllari accused the Democratic Party of a series of provocations both before and after the parliamentary elections held on April 25.

Sharing a panel on Now with Erla Mehilli, he said that the opposition “failed to create a common spirit” during the election campaign.

Brahimllari said that one of the first signs of a rift is when Basha refused to attend the SMI’s closing rally.

“It is very clear now among public opinion, there was an absence of a winning spirit in its core and led by a leader. The SMI has been provoked by the DP even before the elections. They didn’t invite us at DP’s rally and he (Basha) did not attend our closing rally”, he said.

In addition, Braimllari commented on the controversial move seen during the campaign, where the two parties although in a coalition, did not have a joint list of candidates.

“There have been no efforts or communication about a joint list. Monika Kryemadhi asked Lulzim Basha not to betray the spirit and the action of the opposition”, he said.

According to journalist Agim Baci, the debate among the two parties is “fair” as losing parties are angered by the result.

“The winners don’t have any reason to be upset as they are in power”, he added.

Baci said that the split actually happened after the two parties lost at the polls, but it escalated with the recent moves of former premier Sali Berisha.

“The flames thrown around by Sali Berisha can easily burn anyone standing nearby. Ilir Meta has a connections and respects Sali Berisha”, Baci said.

However, the journalist expressed his dismay about the attitude of President Meta toward DP’s leader Lulzim Basha.

“I actually attended the rally called by President Meta, where he swore on the Constitution. Yesterday, he came up with the version that Basha begged him on his knees”, he said.
