Rainy days are bringing to light many issues present across several residential blocks across the city of Vlora. The lack of investments in roads, sidewalks, sewerage, and street drains have led to floods in several neighborhoods in the city.

One of the oldest neighborhoods in Vlora, known as ‘Kume’, is currently faced with a serious lack of proper infrastructure. Residents complain that there has never been a single investment in the area and that their lives are getting more difficult especially in periods of heavy rainfall.

Citizens have also said that their city hall hasn’t taken any steps towards finding new investments. According to them, those in power, seem to only come to meet them when they need something in return.

Euronews Albania asked the head of the Urbanism Office at the Municipality of Vlora, Jurgen Collaku, who said that the project for the ‘Kume’ neighborhood is underway – it has begun with the construction of the main road and will gradually spread across the entire neighborhood.

He didn’t however, mention when this inner-neighborhood rehabilitation is set to commence.

On the other hand, the heavy rainfall over the weekend has caused difficulties in the circulation of citizens as well as traffic congestion due to severe flooding.
