The former police chief against organized crime at the Vlora Police Department working was sentenced to 8 years in jail over drug trafficking and organized crime charges.
SPAK requested a harsher sentence, asking 12 years for Gjergj Kohilla, but his sentence was reduced to one-third, according to the concept of abbreviated trial.
Kohilla has not been apprehended by the police and is still at large.
Part of the same case has also been another top police official from Dhermi. The two are accused of collaborating with the “Habilaj” criminal group in trafficking cannabis.
Albania’s former interior minister Saimir Tahiri was part of the same trial when the case made it to court, but their file was disjointed shortly after.
