In order to have their voices heard and their demands met, tetraplegic and paraplegic patients gathered this Thursday, outside the Albanian Parliament to stage a protest and make the needs known.
As was the case with the farmers’ protest last week, after exiting the plenum hall, PM Rama met with the protestors and sent them over to have a meeting with ministers Ibrahimi and Manastirliu.
After their meeting, the head of the Association of Para-Tetraplegic Disabled Individuals, Bajram Tirana, said that he was optimistic that their demands would be met.
“As a result of our debate, we settled on a future meeting, after the ministers discuss and come to a conclusion regarding the financial clauses we have put forth. We aren’t pretending to have all 7 demands met, but let’s not forget that we have an agreement and are looking to have it implemented,” – said Tirana.
Paraplegic and tetraplegic patients are asking for an increase in their financial assistance benefits that are meant to cover their treatments, a return of the regulation that covered their electricity costs, payment for a caretaker, and a settlement by the government for their outstanding fees.
