The General Secretary of the Democratic Party Gazment Bardhi said that cards being distributed for the contested Assembly due on December 11 are “fake”. The Assembly has been called for by DP’s former leader Sali Berisha.
In an email sent DP’s regional branches, Bardhi claims that these “documents and the utilization of data belonging to members has not been authorized by any organ from the Democratic Party and as a result, they have been falsified and produced by unidentified individuals that do not represent the Democratic Party of Albania”.
According to Bardhi, the main objective is to harm the Democratic Party and portray it as “an illegal cell” where anyone “can use the party’s symbols”, Bardhi wrote in the email.
Former leader and prime minister Sali Berisha has repeteadly said during a nationwide tour that he has already gathered the necessary amount of signatures the convene the DP’s National Assembly on a date set by him, December 11.
But the actual leader of the Democrats, Lulzim Basha has refused his predecessor’s initiative and instead called on holding the assembly on 18 December.
