During tonight’s ‘Now’ with Erla Mehilli, the organizer of former PM Sali Berisha’s, ‘Pulpit tour’ in the United States, Zekri Picari, said that an initiative of this nature has been a response to the disappointment felt by all young Democrats for some time.

Moreover, he said that even though they weren’t publicly voiced, these complaints were widely accepted by many members of the Democratic Party, who discussed them amongst themselves, so as to not bring any more problems to DP.

“There was also a widely unaddressed discontent towards Berisha – precisely because of his delayed intervention,” – said Picari, adding that for a long time now, party members had been asking for a reconsideration of DP’s leadership.

Among other things, Picari said that there have even been Democrats that have left DP due to “the poor governance of Rama and Basha”.

“Yesterday’s pulpit meeting served to provide the first space that will allow for all the frustration felt through the years to be expressed openly as well as help to reactivate the party’s engines,” – said Picari.

When asked about his stance regarding the decision of the U.S Department of State to declare Berisha non-grata, Picari said that “the Pulpit tour is returning internal democracy to the Democratic Party”.

“There is nothing more democratic than internal democracy. Mr. Berisha has taken it upon himself to resolve his case and he is the one who will deal with it.  The Democratic Party was founded in the name of protecting human rights and freedom and this is pro-American. The Democratic Party recultivated pluralism and voting in Albania and this too is pro American,” – concluded Picari.
