“We can’t raise the alarm and say that we’re expecting floods. The situation is being monitored during the entire time and we release announcements through our daily bulletins,” – said Anira Gjoni, representative of the Institute of Geosciences, Energy, Water and the Environment on Euronews Albania’s ‘Morning’.
Gjoni also noted that if there was a risk of floods, this institution would be the first to raise the alarm 3 to 5 days beforehand, after which they alert Civil Emergencies and so they can take necessary measures in time.
“We have put together a table of contents for each county, so for low-intensity precipitation, there’s a chance of 0-15 mm of rain, whereas in areas with moderate intensity, they should expect between 15 and 45 mm,” – she added.
Moreover, Gjoni pointed out that January 2021 was the month with the highest level of rainfall, surpassing 280% above average.
“We are talking about the month of January in previous years and comparing it to the 30-year average rate,” – concluded the expert.
