Earlier today, PM Edi Rama was presented with the “Vital Voices Global’ award, given to him in the United States of America.

Hillary Clinton, the spouse of former U.S. president Bill Clinton and one of the founders of the ‘Vital Voices Global Partnership’ foundation, located in Washington DC, presented the Albanian prime minister with this award, commending him for his contribution in sheltering more than 1,000 Afghans fleeing the Taliban rule in Afghanistan.

During her word at the awards ceremony, Mrs. Clinton praised the work of the Albanian PM and his contribution in promoting gender equality, while bringing to attention the fact that Rama’s administration is made up of predominantly women ministers.

“PM Rama opened the doors to his country, for citizens of Afghanistan, mainly women in need, and thanks to his leadership and the efforts of the Albanian government, more than 1.000 evacuated Afghanis are now safe in Albania,” – said Clinton.

PM Rama also declared that he feels proud of the way Albanians took in and welcomed Afghan refugees in their hometowns.

“We’re a small country. We can’t change the fate of any war and we go to war whenever the United States tells us to, but if we can’t even be there, when people ask us for help, which can’t, in any case, be compared to the heroic acts of our mothers and fathers during WWII, then why should we even be a NATO member? And what would our value even be at the end of the day?!” – said Rama.
