Five former soldiers were arrested in Sarajevo over suspicions that they committed crimes against Serbian civilians that were detained during the war in Bosnia in 1992-1994, announced the Investigation and Protection Agency of Bosnia-Herzegovina (SIPA).

At least 8 civilians were killed and another 100 were injured by the five soldiers now being accused of unlawful imprisonment, torture, abuse, forced labor, and inflicting bodily and mental harm, along with murder.

Reportedly, the victims were held against their will in wartime prison camps, located at an abandoned school and an unfinished building in Sarajevo.

“The accused are charged with the murder of at least eight civilians who were imprisoned. Among the suspects are the direct perpetrators of the killings,” the statement said”, SIPA statement read.

The agency noted that the Serbian police had also been involved.

Over 100,000 people were killed during the conflict in Bosnia which ended with the Dayton Agreement brokered by the United States and saw the country divided along ethnic lines among Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats.

This is the third time in the past two weeks that authorities arrest war crimes suspects.
