Albania Prime Minister Edi Rama received Thursday afternoon the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and the US Special Envoy to the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar.

Rama described the meeting as “very fiends”, highlighting that the main theme was “on the excellent partnership between Albania and the United States”.

PM Rama noted that Escobar had affirmed that the Biden administration supports the Open Balkan initiative.

In addition, the meeting also focused on Albania’s role in the region as well as the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue.

Escobar said during an earlier visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina that the US endorses an initiative that is based on “fair principles” and that is open “to all six countries of the Western Balkans”.

According to the US Special Envoy, Open Balkan needs to regulate the common market and raise to EU levels so that its 20 million inhabitants can actually gain out of it.
