The feature “Quo vadis, Aida?” directed by Jasmila Zbanic from Bosnia and Hercegovina was honored with the Best European Movie Award at the 2021 European Films Awards.

In the awards ceremony taking place in Berlin, the director was presented with the best director award, whereas the main actress in the film that told the story of the Srebrenica Genocide in 1995, Jana Gjuricic, won the best leading actress award.

The director declared that she dedicates this film to all mothers of Srebrenica, emphasizing that women always find a way to build peace in a destroyed nation. The Albanian actor from Kosovo, Alban Uka, also plays in this film.

The film speaks about a mother’s anxiety, who tries to rescue her two sons and husband from the Serbian armed forces led by Ratko Mlladic, who after entering the UN-protected area of Srebrenica, killed more than 8 000 Bosnians.

This awards festival has been taking place annually since 1998 and is considered by many as the Oscars of Europe.
