The leader of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha declared that Democrats will join forces to choose their future at the December 18 National Assembly.
“Democrats will unite on December 18 to choose their future, and offer a civilized model for the change that the Albanian people want in order to end transition”, Basha said on Facebook.
“The darkest hour is just before dawn. That’s how it was 31 years ago when the Democratic Party was established to separate the future from the past, to bring freedom and topple the cult of the individual and reunite Albania and the West. Today is the same thing. That is why better days are ahead”, he wrote.
Tensions rose on Monday as former PM Sali Berisha and his supporters entered the headquarters of the Democratic Party to hold a meeting for the reformation of the DP.
On the other hand, Basha denounced Berisha’s move saying that it reminded him of the “dark period of 1997”.
According to him, Berisha belongs to the past and has now become a burden and an obstacle to Democrats and their goal to oust Edi Rama.
