Five citizens tested positive to the new COVID-19 variant in Montenegro, dubbed Omicron, announced the country’s public health institute.
“All the confirmed cases are in a good condition with only mild symptoms”, a statement released by the health authority read.
The first suspected case was detected on December 4, and all family members, as well as their contacts, were isolated.
In the past 24 hours, Montenegro recorded 187 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths.
In total, the country has an estimated 1,812 active cases while 42.8% of its population has received both vaccine doses.
The Ministry of Health announced that it will step up efforts to monitor that pandemic preventative measures are being respected, especially in winter resorts.
