Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called ‘Open Balkan’, a great initiative that will shape the future of youth in the region.

In his opening remarks during the first session marking the beginning of the Open Balkan Summit that is being held in Tirana, Vucic said that the main goal is opening up the borders for people, by facilitating trade and business amongst citizens of participating countries.

According to the Serbian president, Open Balkan is an inclusive initiative, where each country can take part, which is why no one needs to apologize to the countries that don’t want to become a part of it.

“This is an inclusive process and we have made it very clear. I’ve had it with the need to justify ourselves over nothing. It’s as if we’ve done something wrong against those who haven’t become part of this initiative. We don’t have to apologize to those that don’t want to join us, but it will be difficult for them to explain to their citizens, why they aren’t becoming part of this initiative,” – he said.

According to Vucic, at this point, we have to take additional steps forward because citizens are expecting tangible results to come out of this initiative.

“Us three or all of us together need to discuss the following steps because people need to see additional steps. Citizens need tangible results. We need to organize in a way that allows us for example to grant our citizens to get 5% in stores and restaurants during the summer season and this would be subsidized by the state,” – said president Vucic.
