North Macedonia’s PM, Zoran Zaev, declared during today’s Summit in Tirana that the Open Balkan initiative is a way to leave Balkans’s turmoiled past behind.
According to him, thanks to this initiative, countries of the Western Balkans won’t ‘remain hostage to the European Union’.
“When we got together with Vucic and Rama and created this initiative, we showed that our countries wouldn’t be kept hostage to the integration process. This process can be halted in Brussels, but Europeanism can’t,” – said North Macedonia’s PM.
Zaev also admitted that this would be his last participation due to the recent development in the Macedonian government.
In addition, he also emphasized the importance of the Open Balkan initiative and made an open call that this initiative can be defended and that it can grow because this is the ‘right way to the EU’.
North Macedonia’s PM underlined that one of the agreements signed today regarding free access to the job market is one of the most successful landmarks of Open Balkan.
Lastly, Zaev said that by now, EU member states have come to realize that this initiative has many positive aspects, which is why it is a spur to work harder in the best interest of citizens and economies of participating countries.
