Elis Bilali, a legal expert, said for Good Morning on Euronews Albania that the wage leak scandal has seriously undermined the privacy of every citizen.
“The personal identification number must be secret and it is up to institutions to protect that. The law on protecting personal data falls under the competencies of the commissioner, he monitors the entire process of giving and taking personal data”, said Bilali.
The attorney also underlined that the matter at hand is a criminal offense.
Bilali emphasized that among the people who should be held accountable is the head of the institution where the sensitive data was leaked from.
“It is unknown where the data was leaked from. The law gives competencies to the director to protect the personal data, he has administrative and criminal liability”, he said, while adding that the institutions’ employees also share part of the responsibility.
According to him, Albanian institutions do not have professionally trained employees to handle personal data.
