Member of the Commission of Refoundation at the Democratic Party, Clirim Gjata, said on tonight’s ‘Now’ that the publication of citizens’ payslips and personal license plates, is a massive privacy violation that comes with grave consequences.
According to him, the responsibility falls on public institutions, which were tasked with protecting citizens’ personal information, referring here to the National Agency of Information.
Gjata described the leaked database as similar to ‘a coup’ because sensitive data has been stolen and misused.
“It is like a coup. There’s no need for an invasion because [like this] they can take away major liberties,” – said Gjata.
According to him, ‘even if a single case had been stolen and made public it would have constituted an offense and each citizen has to be compensated’ due to the publication of their personal information which should have been protected.
In addition, Gjata added that the government should have launched an investigation ever since the first major breach – the publication of the ‘Patrons list’, which included personal information, including voting preferences of close to a million citizens – which could have prevented the data leaks that followed.
