On tonight’s Now with Erla Mehilli, experts shared their thoughts about what should be done to improve the safety of what we consume every day.

Martin Jorgaqi, in charge of product control near the National Food Authority, said that is a positive thing when consumers report problems with their food, which is then followed up by authorities.

Ilir Koha, Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Agricultural University said that a product must be taken off the market when its expiration date nears.

“The sale of products near their expiry date is prohibited, as the consumer may not use the product shortly after”, he explains.

Koha also said that the use of palm oil has become so widespread that food companies advertise it when its product is ‘palm oil-free.

Alban Zusi, the head of the manufacturers association, recommended increasing the number of field inspectors and establishing the Order of the Veterinarians.
