The hearing session for the former minister of internal affairs, Saimir Tahiri, has been postponed to a later date. Judge Florjan Kalaja, who was appointed to oversee his case as part of the judicial tribunal, has asked for more time so that he can get acquainted with all the acts.
Kalaja was assigned as a judge in Tahiri’s case following Daniela Shirka’s resignation ahead of the former minister’s hearing.
The Prosecution began investigations against Tahiri after the publication of several phone records in an Italian probe involving the ‘Habilaj’ mafia group.
The former minister was accused of ‘narcotics trafficking in collaboration with a structured criminal group’, but these charges were dropped in court.
At the Special Appeals Court for Corruption and Organized Crime, former minister, Saimir Tahiri is asking to be completely acquitted while the Prosecution is still claiming that he needs to be convicted for drug trafficking.
