Infectious disease specialist in North Macedonia Fadil Cana told Euronews Albania that the so-called ‘Flurona’, which implies a combination of COVID-19 and the flu, is not manifesting with severe symptoms nor increased hospitalizations.

According to him, the recent wave of infections comes as a result of new year celebrations and the fact that many were not as careful in respecting pandemic preventative measures.

High fever, headache, throat pain, and tiredness are some of the most common symptoms reported from citizens diagnosed with Flurona in North Macedonia.

“Patients were not vaccinated”, added Cana.

According to him, treatment becomes more difficult when the flu is combined with COVID-19, however, he says that it all depends on the way our immune system reacts to the infection.

“Flurona does not come with complications that require clinical treatment”, concluded Dr. Cana.
