The US Embassy in Tirana has made a public reaction following Berisha’s calls for tomorrow’s protest at the Democratic Party headquarters in the capital city, saying that American citizens should avoid any and all large gatherings.
“U.S. citizens are advised to avoid any large gatherings in the city. While many large public events may proceed peacefully, some situations can change quickly and unpredictably, and participants can migrate to other parts of the city. Monitor local media for the latest information and follow instructions of local law enforcement authorities,” – states the Embassy’s demonstration alert.
The protest called by former PM Sali Berisha will be held this Saturday at 12:00 CET and will be centered around recent debates over who should lead the Democratic Party.
During a public appearance earlier today, from DP’s headquarters, former PM Sali Berisha called for a peaceful protest tomorrow, while adding that January 8 will be the day when he regains control of the Democratic Party.
For several days now, the main entrance of the Democratic Party has been blocked. In an official statement, DP officials have said that the reason for this is an “ongoing reconstruction project that will add more office spaces within the party premises”.
