The leader of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha is addressing the country in a press conference shortly after a protest calling on him to vacate the office concluded.
Prior to the live address, Basha took the journalists to a small tour around the party’s headquarters to show them the damage caused during the protest.
Basha said that he had been warned about the potential “forceful siege”, adding that what was initially described as a “democratizing movement” showed its true colors shortly after.
According to Basha, today marked the end of Berisha’s political career and urged Democrats to see this as an opportunity to distance themselves once and for all from “his dark legacy”.
“January 8 will remain the hallmark of this tragedy”, said Basha.
Basha also added that Berisha will pay his “dues to justice and no longer with Democrats”.
He praised the intervention of the State Police but expressed his reservations about the role of high-ranking police officials.
