DP’s leadership has decided to enforce the permanent expulsion of former PM and party leader, Sali Berisha from the Democratic Party.

This decision will be passed on to the party’s National Council later today.

In last night’s meeting, which lasted until the early morning hours, members of DP’s Leadership group decided to oust an additional 7 members of Berisha’s Refoundation Commission: Bujar Nishani, Flamur Noka, Albana Vokshi, Edmond Spaho, Arben Ristani, Klevis Balliu and Keltis Kruja.

Meanwhile, the following members have been suspended: Agron Shehaj, Aldo Bumçi, Belind Këlliçi, Blendi Himci, Çlirim Gjata, Edit Harxhi, Edi Paloka, Eno Bozdo, Ervin Minarolli, Gent Deromemaj, Genc Pollo, Genti Strazimiri, Rigels Muçollari, Ivi Kaso, Ledina Mandia, Luan Baçi, Lorenc Luka, Mimoza Hajdarmataj, Oerd Bylykbashi and Tritan Shehu.

DP underlined that these decisions came as a result of Saturday’s protest, which put the lives of members of DP’s leadership, its parliamentary group, the National Council, National Assembly and the lives of party members at risk.

On Saturday, the headquarters of the Democratic Party were attacked by followers of Berisha, who responded to his call for a peaceful protest that aimed at taking back DP and forcing Lulzim Basha to resign, or call for a popular vote.

Protestors tried to open the party’s main doors, which had been heavily armored following Basha’s orders.

At the end of the protest, which was dispersed by police forces, former PM Sali Berisha declared that mass protests would follow.

Berisha still hasn’t given a formal reaction regarding Basha’s decision to oust him along with several other members of the Democratic Party.
