PM Edi Rama has given another press statement after SP’s leadership meeting, during which he responded to one of the questions regarding the current situation with the Democratic Party, which he deemed ‘dramatic’.
Rama said that the police is facing its greatest challenge in the past 30 years, finding itself in the midst of a conflict between Democrats, fighting for the right to the party’s headquarters. According to him, Basha had no need to fortify DP, but it would have been enough to just call on the police to protect it.
According to the head of state, the battle in the name of personal interests between Sali Berisha and Lulzim Basha – who he said were two ‘political cadavers’ – is leading to the destruction of DP and the country’s main opposition.
In addition, Rama said that he hopes that the situation can be resolved peacefully, while emphasizing that the attack against DP’s headquarters by Berisha’s protestors as well as Basha’s response by fortifying and armoring the party structures, should be condemned as acts of violence.
“There will always be problems. It’s safe to say however, is that SP works in the name of resolving issues amongst people, whereas DP is only working towards resolving the issues of 2 individuals; one a political cadaver with party headquarters and the other without, one locked inside the Democratic Party HQ, and the other blacklisted. A very dramatic time for DP. We are willing to collaborate, but the situation is very difficult at the moment. We hope that we can move towards a peaceful solution and I hope that we have left violence behind,” – said Rama.
