The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party, Taulant Balla, said that this year will be of particular importance for the country’s path toward EU membership.

“There is no doubt that this year we’ll have the opportunity to hold the first Intergovernmental Conference. But, unfortunately, the words coming from Skopje and Sofia do not promise a resolution of the disagreement between the two, but however time has come for Albania to hold its first IGC because in this aspect there are no obstacles”, said Balla.

Balla also announced about extending the mandate of the Vetting institutions in the upcoming plenary sessions.

In regards to selecting a new president, he said that the Constitution has provided that in the first three rounds the president is elected by a qualified majority and in the fourth and fifth rounds it starts by a simple majority.

“It’s still early to talk about what will happen after the vacancy”, concluded Balla.
