Tourism in Albania did not succeed in reaching levels seen before 2019.

Government efforts to attract visitors, by leaving the country’s borders open, did not yield the desired effects.

6.9 million people visited Albania last year, or in other words, 2,5 million visitors less than before the pandemic hit.

These figures reveal that a return to normal levels is still distant.

This also translates into lost revenues, as in 2021 tourists spent €1.9 billion in Albania, around €400 million less than in 2019.

In regional terms, the greatest influx of tourists arrived from Kosovo, followed by North Macedonia, Italy, and Greece.

Recently, Albania’s coastline has attracted tourists from Poland and the Middle East.

In 2022, travel agencies expect more visitors. But January came with a new wave of COVID-19 infections, something that might affect free travel.
