The High Inspectorate of Justice has 17 vacant spots. Prosecutors, and especially judges, hesitate to apply for that position.

The vacancies have created a backlog of more than 4,300 files, consisting of complaints addressed to judges and prosecutors by citizens and various institutions. Only 1,600 have been handled so far.

From these, the High Inspector of Justice Artur Metani finished investigating 22 cases and sought the dismissal of 12 judges and prosecutors.

The law stipulates that there must be 26 inspectors, but currently, only 9 are in office.

“The High Justice Inspectorate made 6 or 7 announcements to judges but no one has come forward, 0 applications”, said Metani.

In addition to several dismissals, the judicial organ also reduced the salaries of 2 judges as a disciplinary measure and suspended an Elbasan judge after posting inadequate videos on TikTok.
