“28% of Kosovars live on less than €2 a day, according to the World Bank”, declared economy expert Zekirja Shabani for Euronews Albania.

He underlined two major problems in Kosovo, informality and low wages.

“The average wage for the public sector increased to €612, but the wages in the public sector remained the same”, he added.

Meanwhile, an economic expert based in Tirana listed Albania as the poorest state, with the “lowest wages not only in the region but also in Europe”.

“The raise was so small that it can’t even cover expenditures for food or price hikes. Albania has a lower average wage than Kosovo. According to a study, Albania’s average salary is €420, whereas in Kosovo it’s €600”, Guxholli said. “A fragile economy that received a blow by the pandemic”.

She also emphasized that Albania is the country with the highest relative poverty, according to the World Bank and IMF.
