This year, Albania and the United States will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. The US embassy in Tirana has designed a logo for this occasion which will be used to promote all the different kinds of activities and events dedicated to our bilateral relations.

US ambassador Yuri Kim, posted a video earlier today where she cherished the cooperation between both nations while emphasizing that more achievements are underway.

“I wish that the American and Albanian nations can continue to always stay side by side,” – said the ambassador.

Diplomatic relations between the US-Albania began on July 28, 1922 – a few months after the conclusion of the Paris Peace Conference, where the American president, Woodrow Wilson, came out in support of our country.

The first US ambassador to be appointed in Tirana was Ulysses Grant Smith, who began his diplomatic mission here on December 4, 1922.

Diplomatic ties went on normally until 1939 when Albania was invaded by Italy.

The US embassy in Tirana was shut down on September 16, 1939.

The severed ties continued through the entire reign of communist dictator Enver Hoxha.

We re-established diplomatic relations with the US on March 15, 1991, after the fall of the communist regime.

William Ryerson became the first US ambassador after the reestablishment of our bilateral relations.

3 months after on June 21, 1991, the US Secretary of State James Baker, came to visit Albania.

On June 10, 2007, President George W. Bush visited our country, becoming the first American President to come to Albania on an official visit.
