“I never comment on court orders,” – said PM Edi Rama during a press conference, after being asked about last night’s arrest of former minister of interior, Saimir Tahiri. While speaking on Tahiri’s sentencing, Rama revealed that since the first implementation of the justice reform, he knew what he was doing all along.
“I knew what I was doing all along when I led the Justice Reform. Had I turned back time 100 times over, I would have done the same thing again and again. But today, we are gathered here for another reason,” – said Rama.
Last night, The Special Appeals Court upheld the decision made by the First Instance Court, sentencing Tahiri to 5 years in prison, later converted to 3.4 years.
Tahiri will start serving his sentence immediately but does have the right of recourse at a higher court, within a 45-day time limit.
At the moment, Tahiri has been escorted to Tirana’s correctional facility no. 313, where he has initially been placed in his own individual cell.
