The Albanian former director of culture at the municipality of Bujanoc, Granit Sadriu, will now have to face the Serbian government in court due to raising the Albanian flag in this public institution.
During his interview on Euronews Albania, Sadriu declared that his court date is set for March 1.
“I am not the only director who is being convicted for using national symbols. Each year, [the Serbian government] convicts another [Albanian] director from another public institution,” – he said.
In addition, Sadriu explained that according to the Serbian constitution, raising the Albanian flag, without accompanying it with the Serbian flag is against the law in Serbia.
Moreover, Sadriu said that based on his expectations, he will most probably be given a fine instead of a prison sentence.
In conclusion, the former culture director said that Serbian authorities won’t stop here, because Albanian institutions don’t take the necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
Last year, on the 109th anniversary of Albania’s independence, the culture department led by Sadriu named The Home of Culture in Bujanoc, showcased our national symbol in this building.
