The campaign for the by-elections officially began on Saturday, with citizens from six municipalities heading to the polls to vote for their new mayor.
By-elections are due in Durres, Shkodra, Diber, Vora, Lushnje, and Rrogozhina on March 6.
The leader of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha kicked off the campaign in Shkodra from where he introduced Democrat nominee Xhemal Bushati.
Basha emphasized that the people of Shkodra ‘are not be messed around with’ and that they should pick Bushati as the best alternative.
“Xhemal Bushati is the best candidate for Shkodra. I am proud that he is our nominee. Shkodra will vote for the DP”, declared Basha.
Bushati will compete for Shkodra against two other candidates. Bardh Spahia from the House of Freedom and Majlinda Angoni from the Socialist Party.
Shkodra, a stronghold of the Democrats for over three decades, will most likely turn into a battlefield between the two factions of the Democratic Party.
