PM Rama should be held accountable for the recent incinerators scandal, said analyst Agim Baci.

During tonight’s SOT with Jonida Shehu, the main topic of discussion was the testimony given by PM Rama before the Inquiry Commission set up to investigate the incinerator scandal that damaged the state budget by at least a couple of million euros.

“The tendency of the ruling majority, especially that of Mr. Rama and Mr. Veliaj, and ministers Ahmetaj and Gjiknuri, was to ‘undo’ the big headline – which involved the staggering sum of €430 million euros. In fact, the first denouncement, apart from the investigation from local press, was made by the High State Audit. So, this is a number that has come out from the High State Audit. It’s not like it just happened one day and everyone was shocked about it,” – said Baci.

In addition, Baci said that Rama should be held politically responsible.

“From the moral aspect, Mr. Rama can’t say that every minister holds individual responsibility. When you win, you’re the one that wins. But everyone else gets appointment by you, no one brought them there by force, you were the one who chose them,” – added Baci.

Earlier today, PM Rama said that “we didn’t build incinerators, but plants that process wage and produce energy”.

“Incinerators were old plants used in the 70s and 80s, which completely burnt the product and never produced any energy,” – he added.

Rama also said that incineration is only part of the process.

The European Union has expressed concerns regarding these incinerators in three of their most recent progress-reports, by deeming their construction the “least favorable alternative to dealing with waste’.

When asked to comment on the issue, Rama said that EU’s policies include gathering waste and recycling them based on their configuration, but that Albania has chosen another method.

Rama also claimed that this particular method is used by other European countries like Sweden and Denmark.
