Ukrainian citizens will now be able to enter Kosovo and stay without getting accepted for a visa.

This new move comes at a time when Kosovo has decided to temporarily lift the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

The decision was voted and adopted by Parliament this Tuesday, March 8.

The proposal was first made by Kosovo’s foreign minister, Donika Gervalla, who two days ago, said that Kosovo was planning to lift the transit visa regime for all Ukrainian citizens and that it would prepare to shelter family members of soldiers currently fighting in Ukraine.

Around 40 Ukrainian soldiers are currently serving in Kosovo through NATO’s KFOR peacekeeping mission, whereas Kosovo is expected to take in around 5.000 Ukrainian refugees.

Prior to this decision, Ukrainian citizens who wished to enter Kosovo had to apply for a visa, but this has been temporarily lifted due to Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine – which has resulted in at least 1.000 civilian casualties, according to the UN.
