The Socialist Party declared on Tuesday that it will not defend its MP, Alqi Bllako, after SPAK called for his arrest.

Given that he has parliamentary immunity from criminal prosecution, the parliament must grant authorization to justice institutions in order to proceed with his arrest.

The head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group said that the SP will ‘never act as an attorney to anyone that will be put to face justice’.

Balla also announced that the Council on the Rules of Procedure, Mandates, and Immunities will convene on Wednesday at 6 PM.

“There will be no delays or hurdles to push forward with an uncontestable achievement, a justice reform that is yielding results”.

SPAK accused Alqi Bllako on Tuesday of being involved in the Fier incinerator affair.

According to the investigation, the latter is suspected to have abused the power delegated by his office when he was serving as General Secretary at the Ministry of Environment.

Earlier in the day, the interim leader of the Democratic Party, Enkelejd Alibeaj, called to convene the Council on the Rules of Procedure, Mandates, and Immunities to assess the mandate of the Socialist MP.

“After learning from the media SPAK’s authorization request to continue with the criminal prosecution, we are hereby calling for an immediate meeting of the Council on the Rules of Procedure, Mandates, and Immunities in order to assess the mandate of the Socialist MP, Alqi Bllako”, Alibeaj wrote on Facebook.

He also reiterated that the Democratic Party is determined to pursue the case until its closed.
