Democrat lawmaker Flamur Noka reacted on Thursday to a statement of PM Edi Rama on legalizing medical marijuana.
According to Noka, the move would give a boost to narcotics trafficking and make criminal gangs ‘even more powerful’.
The former interior minister said that the initiative comes at a time when the country has turned into ‘one of the main suppliers of all sorts of drugs in Europe’.
“Every businessman that will get a license to cultivate cannabis will become a soldier in the hands of criminal gangs”, Noka said.
On Thursday, PM Edi Rama revealed plans on legalizing cannabis for medical purposes, following a nationwide questionnaire where over 309,000 respondents voted in favor.
