“The decision to suspend the mandate of branch leaders on a municipality level was taken by the Congress. We did an assessment which pointed to several inconsistencies”, said on Friday former justice minister and SP’s Secretary for Women, Etilda Gjonaj for Euronews Albania.
She also added that the amendments to the statute will improve ‘communication across party structures’.
“The purpose of changing the statute is to reorganize. Executive secretaries at the municipal level will be introduced as new structures that will report to the center”, she said.
The Congress of the Socialist Party convened on Saturday with 1,007 delegates attending the session.
5 open panels are set to discuss on various key areas.
Several amendments are also expected, including the suspension of the mandate of branch leaders.
